Pilosocereus pachycladus
Common Name: Blue Torch Cactus
Pilosocereus pachycladus, widely known as the Blue Torch Cactus, is a stunning columnar species native to Brazil’s arid regions. It’s celebrated for its vibrant blue to turquoise skin, strong vertical ribs, and golden-yellow spines that catch the light beautifully—making it a true statement piece in any cactus collection.
This fast-growing cactus can reach impressive heights over time, especially when planted in the ground in warm climates. Under the right conditions, mature plants produce large, creamy-white flowers at night, followed by ornamental fruit.
☀ Light Requirements
Thrives in full sun. Outdoors, plant in a bright, open location. Indoors, place near a south- or west-facing window or provide strong supplemental lighting to maintain its vibrant color and upright shape.
💧 Watering Needs
Water deeply when the soil is fully dry. During the growing season (spring through early fall), it can be watered more regularly, but always ensure excellent drainage. Reduce watering in winter.
🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Hardy to around 30–35°F in dry conditions. Protect from frost and prolonged cold, especially in wet soil. For cold zones or winter shipping, we recommend adding a [Heat Pack].
✨ Special Features
• Brilliant Blue Color – Iconic glaucous skin with golden spines for striking contrast
• Fast Growth – Quick to size up with strong light and proper care
• Showy Blooms – Nocturnal flowers appear on mature specimens

If temperatures near you are below 45℉ we highly recommend adding a Heat Pack to your order.
If temperatures where you live will be much lower than 20℉ even heat packs may not work. You may consider waiting until things warm up a bit. We know you love your plants just like we do and we wouldn't want any of them to freeze.
