Echinopsis huascha var. grandiflorus
Common Name: Red Torch Cactus
Echinopsis huascha var. grandiflorus, commonly known as the Red Torch Cactus, is a spectacular columnar cactus native to northwestern Argentina. It’s beloved for its upright, clumping growth and its show-stopping, large red to reddish-orange flowers that can span up to 6 inches across. These blooms are intensely vibrant and often appear in waves during the warmer months.
The stems are ribbed and covered in short, golden to reddish-brown spines, forming tight clusters that resemble a miniature torch garden. Fast-growing and easy to care for, this variety is perfect for both outdoor xeriscapes and sunny windowsill displays.
☀ Light Requirements
Thrives in full sun. Outdoors, plant in a bright, open area. Indoors, place near a south- or west-facing window or provide strong grow lights to encourage flowering.
💧 Watering Needs
Water deeply only when the soil is completely dry. More frequent watering during spring and summer will support flowering, but avoid excess moisture. Use well-draining cactus soil.
🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Hardy to about 25°F in dry conditions. Protect from frost if wet or prolonged. For winter orders or cold zones, consider adding a [Heat Pack].
