Lophocereus schottii f. monstrose
Common Name: Totem Pole Cactus
Lophocereus schottii f. monstrose, commonly known as the Totem Pole Cactus, is one of the most iconic and unusual columnar cacti in cultivation. This monstrose form of the Mexican Lophocereus schottii features tall, smooth, waxy green columns covered in lumpy, spineless nodules that stack upward like ancient stone carvings—giving it its fitting nickname.
With no visible spines and a deeply sculptural growth habit, the Totem Pole Cactus is beloved for both its touchable texture and striking architectural form. It grows slowly but can reach impressive heights in time, especially when planted in the ground in warm, dry climates.
☀ Light Requirements
Thrives in full sun to bright, indirect light. Outdoors, it prefers strong sun and warm temperatures. Indoors, give it the brightest possible spot to encourage steady vertical growth.
💧 Watering Needs
Water thoroughly only when the soil is completely dry. Very drought-tolerant. In winter, reduce watering significantly or stop altogether in cold, dormant conditions.
🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Cold-hardy down to about 25–30°F in dry conditions. Avoid wet cold and protect from hard frost. For winter shipping or colder climates, we recommend adding a [Heat Pack].
✨ Special Features
• Spineless & Smooth – Safe to handle and perfect for high-traffic areas
• Sculptural Growth – Distinct, lumpy columns grow like organic totem poles
• Low Maintenance – Easy to care for and exceptionally drought-tolerant
Other Common Names:
