Mammillaria spinosissima ‘Un Pico’
Common Name: One Spine Cactus
Mammillaria spinosissima ‘Un Pico’, also known as the One Spine Cactus, is a rare and captivating cultivar of the beloved Spiny Pincushion Cactus. What sets this variety apart is its unique areole structure—each areole features just one prominent central spine, giving it a tidy, balanced appearance that’s both minimalist and eye-catching.
The cylindrical body is typically deep green, densely covered with white radial hairs and that one signature spine, often golden or reddish in color. In spring or early summer, it puts on a beautiful floral display with bright pink to magenta flowers forming a ring near the top of the plant.
☀ Light Requirements
Enjoys bright, direct sunlight or filtered light. Outdoors, full morning sun is ideal. Indoors, place near a south- or west-facing window to maintain its shape and encourage blooming.
💧 Watering Needs
Water deeply only when the soil is completely dry. Use a well-draining cactus mix. Reduce watering significantly during winter dormancy.
🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Hardy to about 25–30°F in dry conditions. Protect from hard frost and wet cold. Add a [Heat Pack] to winter shipments.
