Astrophytum asterias
Common Name: Sand Dollar Cactus

Astrophytum asterias, often called the Sand Dollar Cactus, is a spineless, perfectly symmetrical gem that looks more like a sea creature than a desert dweller. Its flat, disk-like body is marked by 8 distinct ribs, each lined with tiny white tufts (areoles) and sprinkled with a fine coating of fuzzy white trichomes that give it a star-dusted appearance.

Native to parts of Texas and northern Mexico, this rare and highly collectible cactus stays compact and low to the ground. In spring and summer, it produces stunning yellow flowers with orange centers that bloom from the crown—adding even more beauty to its already otherworldly form.

☀ Light Requirements
Prefers bright, indirect light to filtered sun. Outdoors, give it morning sun and afternoon shade. Indoors, place in a well-lit window with good airflow to avoid rot.

💧 Watering Needs
Water sparingly and only when the soil is fully dry. Asterias is particularly sensitive to overwatering and requires excellent drainage. Water even less during winter dormancy.

🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Cold-sensitive. Best kept above 45°F. Protect from frost and prolonged cold. For winter shipping or colder regions, consider adding a [Heat Pack].

✨ Special Features
Spineless Beauty – Smooth, flat form with no spines—perfect for handling and display
Stunning Blooms – Bright yellow flowers with orange centers appear at the crown
