Cleistocactus strausii
Common Name: Silver Torch Cactus

Cleistocactus strausii, widely known as the Silver Torch Cactus, is an elegant and fast-growing columnar cactus native to the high mountains of Bolivia and Argentina. It’s easily recognized by its tall, slender stems covered in a dense layer of fine, silvery-white spines that give it a frosted, glowing appearance—especially striking when grouped in clusters.

As the plant matures, it produces dramatic tubular magenta-red flowers that protrude horizontally from the sides of the stems, offering a vivid contrast to the silver spines. These blooms often appear in late summer and attract pollinators like hummingbirds in warmer regions.

☀ Light Requirements
Loves full sun. Outdoors, give it plenty of direct sunlight to encourage compact, upright growth and vibrant color. Indoors, place near a bright south- or west-facing window.

💧 Watering Needs
Water thoroughly only when the soil is completely dry. During the growing season, water more frequently but avoid letting the soil remain wet. Reduce watering in winter.

🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Hardy to about 20–25°F in dry conditions. Protect from hard frost and excessive winter moisture. For cold regions or winter shipping, we recommend a [Heat Pack].

✨ Special Features
Frosted Appearance – Silvery spines give the plant a beautiful, glowing texture
Upright & Slender – Grows tall without taking up much horizontal space
Unique Flowers – Magenta tubular blooms emerge sideways from mature stems

Other Common Names:
Silver Torch, Woolly Torch, Snow Pole Cactus
