Matucana aurantiaca ssp. polzii
Common Name: Polzii Matucana

Matucana aurantiaca ssp. polzii is a rare and eye-catching Peruvian cactus, prized for its compact growth and fiery orange blooms. This subspecies of Matucana aurantiaca grows as a squat, globular body with well-defined ribs and short, fine spines that allow its smooth green surface to show through. When in bloom, it puts on a spectacular display of bright orange, tubular flowers—often appearing in abundance around the crown.

Native to the high elevations of Peru, this cactus thrives in cool, bright conditions and makes an excellent choice for collectors looking to add vivid color and form to their collection without needing a large footprint.

☀ Light Requirements
Prefers bright, indirect light or filtered sun. Outdoors, give it morning sun with protection from intense afternoon rays. Indoors, place near a bright window or under grow lights to encourage blooming.

💧 Watering Needs
Water thoroughly when soil is fully dry. During the active growing season (spring to fall), keep to a moderate watering schedule. Reduce watering significantly in winter.

🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Cold-tolerant to around 25–30°F in dry conditions. Protect from wet cold and frost. For winter orders or cold zones, add a [Heat Pack].

✨ Special Features
Brilliant Orange Blooms – Vivid tubular flowers that stand out against the green body
Compact Growth – Ideal for small pots, trays, or collector groupings
Rare Subspecies – A harder-to-find form with strong visual appeal

Other Common Names:
Polzii Matucana, Orange Matucana, Dwarf Flame Cactus
