Drimiopsis kirkii
Common Name: Little White Soldiers

Drimiopsis kirkii is a charming bulb-forming perennial native to eastern and southern Africa. Despite its tropical origin, it's surprisingly tough and adaptable, known for its glossy green leaves marked with dark spots—earning it the nickname “Leopard Plant.”

Compact, resilient, and perfect for pots or shady garden corners, Drimiopsis kirkii brings subtle texture and interest to any collection. Its clumping growth habit and seasonal blooms make it a great candidate for succulent lovers and shade gardeners alike.

Light Requirements
Thrives in bright, indirect light to partial shade. Stronger light brings out darker spotting. Too much direct sun may scorch the leaves.

💧 Watering Needs
Water moderately during active growth (spring to fall), letting the soil dry slightly between waterings. In winter dormancy, reduce watering significantly.

🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Prefers warm temps and should be protected from frost. Hardy in USDA zones 9–11. If temps drop below 40°F (4°C), move indoors or provide cold protection.

Special Features
• Speckled Foliage – Unique leaf patterning when grown in good light
• Bulb-Forming Growth – Clumps over time and stores energy in underground bulbs
• Low Maintenance – Handles neglect well and is easy to divide

Other Common Names: Leopard Plant, African False Hosta
