Euphorbia pseudocactus
Common Name: Zig Zag Cactus
Despite the name, Euphorbia pseudocactus isn’t a true cactus—it’s a uniquely shaped succulent native to southern Africa. Commonly called the Zig Zag Cactus, this plant is loved for its wild, irregular stems that form jagged, angular shapes reminiscent of a lightning bolt or a zigzag pattern. The stems are thick, succulent, and upright, with yellowish-green coloring often marked by dark green blotches or marbling—a camouflage look that only adds to its appeal.
This clumping, shrubby Euphorbia can grow to impressive size over time and makes a striking sculptural element in any collection. Like most Euphorbias, it produces tiny, yellow-green cyathia (flowers) and a milky sap when cut, which is toxic—handle with care.
☀ Light Requirements
Prefers bright, indirect light or partial sun. Can tolerate full sun outdoors with acclimation but will need some protection from the harshest rays in very hot climates. Indoors, a bright window is ideal.
💧 Watering Needs
Water thoroughly only when soil is completely dry. This Euphorbia prefers infrequent, deep waterings. Avoid excess moisture, especially in cooler seasons.
🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Not frost-hardy. Best kept above 40°F. In colder climates or during winter shipping, be sure to add a [Heat Pack].
