Ferocactus emoryi
Common Name: Emory’s Barrel Cactus

Ferocactus emoryi, known as Emory’s Barrel Cactus, is a striking desert native admired for its large size, architectural form, and dramatic spines. This species forms a robust, deeply ribbed barrel that can grow up to several feet tall over time. Its most distinctive feature is its long, thick, hooked central spines—often deep red to reddish-pink when young—giving it a fierce yet beautiful appearance.

Native to the Sonoran Desert and parts of northwestern Mexico, F. emoryi thrives in extreme heat and sun, making it a perfect centerpiece for xeriscaping or arid gardens. In summer, it produces vivid red to yellow flowers at the crown, attracting pollinators and admirers alike.

☀ Light Requirements
Thrives in full sun. Outdoors, give it maximum sunlight for best spine color and shape. Indoors, ensure direct light from a bright window or supplemental grow lighting.

💧 Watering Needs
Water deeply only when soil is completely dry. This cactus is highly drought-tolerant and requires excellent drainage. Water less frequently during winter dormancy.

🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Hardy to about 20–25°F in dry conditions. Protect from prolonged frost and wet cold. For winter shipping or colder regions, add a [Heat Pack].

Massive Barrel Form – Thick, heavy body with sharply defined ribs
