Grafted Euphorbia lactea var. cristata
Common Name: Mermaid Cactus
Euphorbia lactea var. cristata, lovingly nicknamed the Mermaid Cactus, is a stunning crested form of Euphorbia lactea, often grafted onto a hardy Euphorbia rootstock for stability and ease of care. This extraordinary plant features ruffled, coral-like crests in hues of soft green, lavender, gray, or even pink—giving it the appearance of a living underwater sculpture.
Each crest grows in its own unique pattern, making every specimen one-of-a-kind. The grafted base provides strength and allows the top to flourish, making this plant both a botanical curiosity and a showpiece.
☀ Light Requirements
Prefers bright, indirect light to partial sun. Outdoors, provide morning light and afternoon shade. Indoors, place near a bright window with filtered sunlight.
💧 Watering Needs
Water sparingly. Let the soil dry out completely between waterings. Like all Euphorbias, this plant is very sensitive to overwatering. Use a well-draining cactus/succulent mix.
🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Hardy to about 40°F. Protect from frost and cold drafts. For winter orders or cold climates, consider adding a [Heat Pack].
✨ Special Features
• Crested Growth – Coral-like fan that grows in unpredictable, sculptural forms
• Vibrant Color – Shades range from minty green to purple and pink under stress

If temperatures near you are below 45℉ we highly recommend adding a Heat Pack to your order.
If temperatures where you live will be much lower than 20℉ even heat packs may not work. You may consider waiting until things warm up a bit. We know you love your plants just like we do and we wouldn't want any of them to freeze.
