Haageocereus versicolor
Common Name: Versicolor Torch Cactus

Haageocereus versicolor is a rare and fascinating cactus native to the arid coastal regions of Peru. True to its name, this species is known for its versatile coloration—its thick, columnar stems can range from glaucous green to blue-gray, often covered with dense golden to reddish spines that deepen in color with age and sun exposure.

This slow-growing cactus typically forms upright, branching columns with strong ribbing and woolly areoles. When mature, it produces gorgeous nocturnal white flowers, often tinged with pink, which bloom in response to warm temperatures and long days.

☀ Light Requirements
Loves full sun. Outdoors, give it maximum light to encourage rich spine color and compact growth. Indoors, place in the brightest window or under strong grow lights.

💧 Watering Needs
Water deeply only when soil is completely dry. During the growing season (spring–fall), provide regular water but always ensure excellent drainage. Cut back in winter.

🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Hardy to about 30°F in dry conditions. Protect from frost and prolonged cold. For winter shipping or cold regions, add a [Heat Pack].

✨ Special Features
Variable Coloring – Spines can shift from gold to coppery red depending on age and light
Columnar Habit – Grows tall and narrow, perfect for vertical accents
Rare Bloomer – Produces large, fragrant white flowers at night

Other Common Names:
Versicolor Torch, Peruvian Torch Cactus (not to be confused with Echinopsis peruviana)
