Lophocereus marginatus
Common Name: Mexican Fencepost Cactus

Lophocereus marginatus, commonly called the Mexican Fencepost Cactus, is a tall, elegant columnar cactus known for its clean lines, soft spines, and architectural beauty. Native to Mexico, it’s often used in landscaping as a natural, living fence due to its upright growth and minimal maintenance requirements.

The thick, ribbed columns are deep green with narrow white margins, lined with short, bristle-like spines. Over time, this cactus can grow to over 15 feet tall and will form offsets at the base, slowly developing into a striking clump or vertical wall.

☀ Light Requirements
Thrives in full sun. Outdoors, choose the brightest spot possible. Indoors, place near a south- or west-facing window to encourage upright growth and vibrant color.

💧 Watering Needs
Water deeply when the soil is fully dry. During the warm growing season, it appreciates occasional watering—but be sure not to overwater. Reduce watering significantly in winter.

🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Hardy to around 25°F in dry conditions. For colder climates or winter shipping, we recommend adding a [Heat Pack].

✨ Special Features
Tall, Vertical Growth – Ideal for natural fencing or dramatic vertical accents
Soft-Spined – Easier to handle than most columnar cacti
Offsetting Habit – Slowly forms dense clumps over time

Other Common Names:
Mexican Fencepost, Organ Pipe Cactus (not to be confused with Stenocereus thurberi)

This cactus will ship bare root and will be ready to place directly in a well draining soil mix like our Custom Cactus Mix.
