Parodia scopa
Common Name: Silver Ball Cactus

Parodia scopa is a compact, globe-shaped cactus known for its dense covering of silvery-white radial spines and golden-yellow flowers that pop brightly against its soft, fuzzy texture. Native to southern Brazil and Uruguay, this species forms a tidy sphere that slowly elongates with age, often producing small offsets to form clumping clusters.

The name scopa means “broom” in Latin, referring to the bristly, brush-like appearance of its spines. Don’t let the soft look fool you—this cactus is tough, easy to grow, and blooms readily when given enough light.

☀ Light Requirements
Loves bright, indirect light to full sun. Outdoors, it thrives in morning sun and some afternoon shade. Indoors, place in your sunniest window to encourage blooming.

💧 Watering Needs
Water thoroughly when the soil is completely dry. During spring and summer, water more regularly; reduce significantly in winter when the plant is dormant. Always use well-draining soil.

🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Cold-hardy to around 25–30°F in dry conditions. Protect from frost if wet or prolonged. For cold-weather shipping, consider adding a Heat Pack.

✨ Special Features
Silvery Spines – Creates a soft, shimmering effect across the body
Golden Flowers – Bright yellow blooms emerge from the crown in spring and summer
Clumping Habit – Forms tight clusters over time, perfect for bowl planters or displays
