Mammillaria polythele v. hidalgensis
Mammillaria polythele v. hidalgensis is a beautifully structured, columnar cactus prized for its precise symmetry and architectural presence. Its dark green to blue-green stem features prominent, conical tubercles arranged in striking geometric spirals. Native to the arid, high-elevation regions of Hidalgo, Mexico, this hardy cactus develops neat tufts of wool in its axils and showcases a striking framework of contrasting white to pale brown spines.
A refined and reliable grower, Mammillaria polythele v. hidalgensis is an excellent choice for a sunny windowsill, shelf display, or container garden. As the plant matures, it rewards collectors by producing a delicate, crown-like ring of vivid pink to magenta flowers near its apex.
☀ Light Requirements
Thrives in direct sunlight to bright, indirect light. Indoors, a south or west-facing windowsill makes a perfect home. Outdoors, it appreciates full morning sun and can handle filtered afternoon light.
💧 Watering Needs
Water thoroughly only when the soil mix has dried out completely. This desert native is highly drought-tolerant and prefers to go totally bone-dry between waterings. Provide regular water during its active summer growth, and keep it nearly completely dry throughout the winter months.
🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Best grown in warm environments and prefers temperatures above 45–50°F. It cannot tolerate frost or freezing conditions and should be brought indoors well before winter sets in. For winter orders, we recommend adding a Heat Pack.
