Mammillaria elongata ‘Irish Red’
Common Name: Irish Red Cactus
Mammillaria elongata ‘Irish Red’ is a fiery and compact variety of the classic Ladyfinger Cactus, prized for its brilliant copper to reddish-bronze spines that glow under bright light. Native to central Mexico, this variety forms tight, finger-like stems that cluster and tangle together over time, creating a beautiful, sculptural mound.
While small in stature, it’s big on impact—especially when it bursts into bloom with tiny, pale yellow to pinkish flowers that circle the tops of the stems like a crown. Easy to grow and very forgiving, this is a must-have for collectors who love vibrant color and unique texture.
☀ Light Requirements
Prefers bright light to full sun. Outdoors, give it plenty of sun for the best red coloration. Indoors, place near a south- or west-facing window or under grow lights to maintain its bold tones.
💧 Watering Needs
Water thoroughly only when soil is fully dry. Reduce watering significantly in the winter months. Always use a fast-draining cactus mix.
🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Hardy to about 25°F in dry conditions. Protect from extended frost or cold, damp soil. Add a [Heat Pack] for winter orders.
✨ Special Features
• Bold Red Spines – Striking coppery-red coloration in bright light
