Matucana madisoniorum
Common Name: Madison’s Matucana

Matucana madisoniorum is a striking and unusual Peruvian cactus known for its smooth, spineless body and large, vividly colored flowers. Unlike most cacti, this species often lacks prominent spines, instead featuring a bluish-green to gray epidermis with pronounced ribs and a matte, almost velvety texture. The contrast between its understated body and oversized, bright orange to red blooms makes it a favorite among collectors who love clean, sculptural plants with showy flowers.

Native to the high-altitude regions of Peru, M. madisoniorum remains compact and thrives in bright, dry conditions—perfect for windowsill growing or container displays.

☀ Light Requirements
Prefers bright, indirect light or filtered sun. Outdoors, provide morning sun and protection from harsh afternoon light. Indoors, place near a bright window or use supplemental lighting.

💧 Watering Needs
Water when the soil is fully dry. This species enjoys moderate watering during the active season (spring through fall) but should be kept dry during winter dormancy. Avoid overwatering—especially in cooler conditions.

🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Hardy to around 30–35°F in dry conditions. Protect from frost and wet cold. For winter shipping or colder zones, we recommend adding a [Heat Pack].

✨ Special Features
Smooth, Spineless Body – Soft and sculptural, with minimal or no spines
Vivid Blooms – Large, showy red to orange flowers appear at the crown in summer
Compact & Collector-Friendly – Great for small spaces and low-light tolerant compared to many other cacti

Other Common Names:
