Monvillea spegazzinii
Common Name: Moonlight Cactus
Monvillea spegazzinii, often called the Moonlight Cactus, is a fast-growing, sprawling to climbing cactus native to South America. Known for its serpentine stems, vivid green color, and occasional dramatic night-blooming flowers, this species brings a wild, jungle-like vibe to any cactus collection.
The stems are slender and ribbed, with short, bristly spines and a semi-epiphytic growth habit that allows it to sprawl, climb, or trail depending on its environment. It’s an excellent candidate for hanging baskets, trellises, or the edge of a planter where it can cascade freely.
☀ Light Requirements
Prefers bright indirect light to full sun. Can tolerate some shade, especially in hot climates. Too much direct sun without acclimation may cause stress.
💧 Watering Needs
Water when soil is completely dry, then soak thoroughly. During active growing seasons, it appreciates a bit more moisture than desert cacti, but always ensure excellent drainage.
🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Best kept above 35°F. Protect from frost. For winter orders or cold climates, we recommend adding a [Heat Pack].
✨ Special Features
• Vining Growth Habit – Unique among cacti; great for hanging or climbing displays
• Night-Blooming Potential – Can produce large, showy, fragrant blooms at night
• Fast Grower – Fills in space quickly with wild, tropical appeal
Other Common Names:

If temperatures near you are below 45℉ we highly recommend adding a Heat Pack to your order.
If temperatures where you live will be much lower than 20℉ even heat packs may not work. You may consider waiting until things warm up a bit. We know you love your plants just like we do and we wouldn't want any of them to freeze.
