Opuntia pycnantha var. margaritana
Common Name: Margarita Prickly Pear

Opuntia pycnantha var. margaritana is a rare and highly decorative prickly pear native to Mexico. This variety is prized for its plump, rounded pads that develop a soft blue-green coloration, sometimes tinged with lavender in cooler weather. Its golden-yellow spines emerge from prominent areoles, creating bold texture and contrast across each pad.

This form tends to stay compact and low-growing, forming sculptural clumps over time—perfect for container culture or dry landscape borders. In late spring to early summer, it may produce vivid yellow flowers followed by ornamental fruit if pollinated.

☀ Light Requirements
Full sun is best to bring out the pad color and keep growth compact. Indoors, place near a south- or west-facing window or use grow lights for best results.

💧 Watering Needs
Water deeply only when the soil has completely dried out. Avoid overwatering, especially in cooler months. Use a well-draining cactus mix to prevent root rot.

🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Tolerates light frost—down to around 25–30°F when dry. Protect from freeze and excessive winter moisture. Add a [Heat Pack] when shipping during cold weather.
