Parodia leninghausii
Common Name: Golden Ball Cactus
Parodia leninghausii, commonly known as the Golden Ball Cactus, is a tall, columnar species prized for its soft golden-yellow spines and gentle, fuzzy appearance. Native to southern Brazil, this cactus starts off globe-shaped and gradually grows into a slender, upright column—making it a great vertical accent in any succulent or cactus collection.
Its lemon-colored spines glow beautifully in sunlight, and mature plants reward growers with vibrant yellow flowers at the crown in summer. Despite its showy appearance, P. leninghausii is beginner-friendly and surprisingly cold-tolerant compared to many tropical cacti.
☀ Light Requirements
Thrives in full sun to bright, indirect light. Outdoors, it enjoys strong light with some protection from scorching afternoon sun. Indoors, place in your brightest window for healthy, upright growth.
💧 Watering Needs
Water deeply when the soil is fully dry. Like most Parodias, it prefers regular water in the growing season (spring–fall) but must have excellent drainage. Reduce watering in winter dormancy.
🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Hardy down to about 25°F in dry conditions. Protect from hard frost and wet cold. For winter orders or cold climates, consider adding a [Heat Pack].
✨ Special Features
• Golden Spines – Soft yellow spines give it a glowing, fuzzy look
• Columnar Growth – Starts round and matures into a tall, elegant column
