Stenocereus griseus
Synonym: Lemaireocereus griseus
Common Name: Gray Ghost Organ Pipe
Stenocereus griseus, often referred to as the Gray Ghost Cactus or Gray Organ Pipe, is a striking, fast-growing columnar cactus native to arid regions of northern South America and the Caribbean. It forms tall, upright stems with a beautiful bluish-gray coloration, ribbed structure, and short, orderly spines—giving it a ghostly, elegant look perfect for desert landscapes or large container specimens.
This species is known for forming dense, tree-like clusters over time, making it ideal for natural fencing, xeriscaping, or creating a dramatic vertical presence. In the summer, mature plants may produce nocturnal white flowers followed by small, edible fruits.
☀ Light Requirements
Thrives in full sun. Outdoors, plant in a bright, open area. Indoors, place near the sunniest window or use high-intensity grow lighting to maintain its compact, upright form.
💧 Watering Needs
Water deeply but infrequently. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. It’s highly drought-tolerant once established. Reduce watering in winter.
🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Hardy to around 25°F in dry conditions. Protect from frost when wet or during prolonged cold snaps. For winter orders or cold zones, add a [Heat Pack].
✨ Special Features
• Stunning Blue-Gray Color – Eye-catching glaucous stems with symmetrical ribbing
