Stenocereus Hollianus
Common Name: Organ Pipe Cactus
Description:
The Stenocereus Hollianus, commonly known as the Organ Pipe Cactus, is a stately and fast-growing columnar cactus native to Mexico. It features tall, ribbed stems with a vibrant green hue and clusters of short, sharp spines that create a striking silhouette. Over time, this cactus forms impressive clumps with multiple upright columns, making it a dramatic focal point in any landscape or collection.
During the warmer months, Stenocereus hollianus produces beautiful, nocturnal flowers that range in color from white to pale pink, followed by small, edible fruits. Its resilience and architectural beauty make it a standout choice for desert gardens, xeriscaping, or container displays.
Light Requirements:
Thrives in full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Provide at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal growth and flowering.
Watering Needs:
Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. During the growing season, this cactus appreciates occasional watering but is highly drought-tolerant once established. Reduce watering during winter dormancy.
Temperature Tolerance:
Hardy down to 25°F with proper acclimation. Protect from prolonged frost or freezing conditions by moving indoors or covering. If temperatures are going to be lower than this in your area, we highly recommend adding a [ Heat Pack ] to your order.
Special Features:
- Architectural Growth: Creates impressive clumps of tall, columnar stems for dramatic visual impact.
- Nocturnal Blooms: Produces large, fragrant flowers that attract nighttime pollinators.
- Edible Fruits: Small fruits are enjoyed by both wildlife and humans.
Other Common Names:
- Mexican Organ Pipe Cactus
