Tephrocactus articulatus var. inermis
Common Name: Pine Cone Cactus

Tephrocactus articulatus var. inermis, often referred to as the Pine Cone Cactus, is a fascinating, spineless variety of Tephrocactus that resembles stacked pine cones or dragon eggs. Native to Argentina, this unique cactus features plump, oval segments with a silvery-blue hue and bumpy texture—growing in a quirky, modular form that’s a true conversation piece.

Unlike its spiny relatives, this variety lacks prominent spines, making it both beginner-friendly and ideal for indoor collections. Over time, it can form a small clump, and with the right care, may produce delicate white flowers in spring or early summer.

☀ Light Requirements
Prefers bright, indirect light to full sun. Outdoors, offer morning sun and afternoon shade. Indoors, place near a sunny window or under strong grow lights to maintain compact shape.

💧 Watering Needs
Water only when soil is fully dry. This species is highly drought-tolerant and sensitive to overwatering—especially in cooler months. Use a well-draining cactus mix and reduce watering in winter.

🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Hardy to around 25–30°F in dry conditions. Protect from prolonged cold or excess moisture. For cold zones or winter shipping, we recommend adding a [Heat Pack].

✨ Special Features
Spineless & Sculptural – Unique, bumpy joints resemble pine cones or eggs
Modular Growth – Segments detach easily and can be rooted for propagation
Collector Favorite – A must-have for lovers of rare and oddball cacti
