Tephrocactus articulatus var. papyracanthus
Common Name: Paper Spine Cactus

Tephrocactus articulatus var. papyracanthus, also known as the Paper Spine Cactus, is a quirky and collectible cactus known for its segmented joints and thin, papery spines that look like curled parchment. Native to Argentina, this unusual species grows in jointed sections that detach easily—making it as fun to propagate as it is to display.

Its spines are more ornamental than protective, making it a great option for collectors who love unique textures without the sting. In the right conditions, mature plants may produce delicate white to pale yellow flowers in spring or summer.

☀ Light Requirements
Prefers bright light to full sun. Outdoors, give it morning sun and light afternoon shade. Indoors, place near a sunny window to promote compact, healthy growth.

💧 Watering Needs
Water sparingly. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. This cactus is very drought-tolerant and prone to rot if overwatered—especially in cooler weather.

🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Hardy to around 25–30°F in dry conditions. Protect from extended frost and wet cold. For winter orders or cold climates, add a [Heat Pack].

✨ Special Features
Segmented Growth – Grows in stacked joints that can detach and root easily
Papery Spines – Flat, decorative spines add soft movement and texture
Conversation Starter – A must-have for collectors of the weird and wonderful
